I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon, because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ. Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people. —Philemon 4-7, NLT
Lord, as I read this short letter of grace and appeal, I am reminded of the impact of faith and how it changes us all. As Paul appeals to Philemon to act in a manner that reflects faith and in an opposite way of his culture and times, I learn about my own life. May faith and generosity and friendship with brothers and sisters lead me in more meaningful ways than my own inclinations and the times in which I live. In so doing, Father, may my encouragements bring refreshment to the hearts of God’s people. Help me to always put faith into action. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
If you have a chance, read the short letter to Philemon. Notice the many ways Paul appeals to faith, fellowship, and relationship that exists between he and Philemon. Onesimus is the beneficiary of this grace. To whom do we need to extend grace today?
